In an exciting finale, German start-up Munevo has snatched the title “Innovation Origins Start-up of the Year.” The Munevo company, which markets a smart glass to control wheelchairs, left 11 other European start-ups behind in the final round of the year-long competition.

The festive award ceremony was broadcast live from the Studio040 studio via the social media channels of Innovation Origins.

In addition to an overall winner, there were prize winners in five subcategories: Digital, Mobility, Health, Sustainability, and Corona. Among them were two Dutch start-ups: Field Factors (Sustainability) and Xyz Dynamics (Mobility). The other winners came from Italy (Liquidweb, Health), Germany (Anydesk, Corona), and Lithuania (SketchAR, Digital).

Konstantin Madaus, one of the founders of Munevo, was overjoyed to win. In expressing his gratitude, he called it “very special” to win the start-up prize just one year after their launch on the market. “Of course, we have also been hit by corona. Our sales depend on one-on-one contacts with our users. Because many clinics and nursing homes were closed during the lockdown, this was impossible. That’s why we couldn’t do as many tests with potential users as we wanted. While I am sure that we will get through this difficult time with our great team, winning this award is a huge boost for us.”

Guus Frericks, the founder of High Tech XL, praised the quality of the start-ups in the broadcast. “You can see that, without exception, these are companies that offer a solution to huge problems, companies with a mission.” Frericks has a special fondness for the Italian Liquidweb, which once participated in the High Tech XL accelerator in Eindhoven. “It’s great to see how they have turned their already-promising technology into a market-ready product.”
