In our Sunday newsletter, we, as editors, look back on the past seven days. We do this on the initiative of our cartoonist Albert Jan Rasker. He picks a topic, draws a picture, and we take it from there.

This week’s “rescue” of Lightyear was an excellent occasion for Albert Jan to take a more nuanced look at the future of this solar car. Of course, the 8 million euros that the Individual Investors Group (IIG) managed to rake together is super important at this stage. And it’s truly remarkable that 100 of the 600 employees can continue building the Lightyear 2. But much more money will have to come from the sun to secure the long term as well.

Read the whole story about Lightyear’s rescue here. And read much more about this wonderful initiative by a group of TU students here.

By the way, it was not only party time in solar cars. While Lightyear could breathe a sigh of relief, for Sono Motors from Munich, it was just the end of the story. Due to a lack of investors, the builder of the Sion car decided not to focus on the car from now on but only on solar roofs. Read what that means here. And, of course, we have also written much more about Sono.

And beyond that…

In addition – as always – we had our sights firmly set on all those people and organizations working to tackle the enormous challenges of our time. Here is “your sneak preview of the future” from this week:
