Philips’ devices allegedly caused health problems in several people in the US. All sleep labs, patients and hospitals that qualify can expect money. How big that amount is depends on what type of device they bought and what warranty was listed on it.
- Philips reaches settlement in US;
- Eligible Americans can expect their money in early 2024;
- How high those amounts are depends on the type of device they used.
In a press release, Philips informs that the settlement does not mean they admit guilt or admit malice. The first payments will be transferred in 2024. How much the settlement will ultimately cost the healthtech company is not yet known.
How much the settlement will ultimately cost Philips depends partly on how many patients participate. The first payments to patients are expected early next year. For the legal settlement alone, Philips already set aside 575 million euro. That amount came on top of the billion euros the company already set aside for the recall of apnoea devices.
This does not yet settle the case. More than five hundred lawsuits are pending against Philips in America. A mass claim in which fifty thousand people joined, is one of them.
