Apollo Tyres Ltd has opened a new ‘digital innovation centre’ in Hyderabad, India as part of its digital strategy which focuses on implementing Industry 4.0 concepts such as IoT, AI and machine learning to drive efficiency gains and achieve sustainability goals. Apollo vice chairman and managing director Neeraj Kanwar commented that “Digitalisation is one of the key pillars for achieving our FY26 vision”.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of physical objects such as machines, vehicles, and home appliances that are embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity. This allows them to collect and exchange data. Big Data is the term used to describe the large volume of data – both structured and unstructured – that can be analysed to uncover patterns, trends, and associations related to human behaviour and interactions.

Machine learning (ML) is a subfield of artificial intelligence (AI) that enables systems to learn from data without being explicitly programmed. AI companies can use the data generated from a connected factory to optimize machinery operations, adjust workflow in real time, and monitor operations to predict problems and schedule maintenance before the failure impacts customer orders.

Industry 4.0

This digitalisation of industry is sometimes called Industry 4.0, a term that has been popularized by Klaus Schwab, the World Economic Forum founder and executive chairman. It refers to the rapid change to technology, industries, and societal patterns and processes in the 21st century due to increasing interconnectivity and smart automation.

Apollo Tyres Ltd has launched its ‘digital innovation centre’ in Hyderabad with the expectation that it will drive significant efficiency gains and agility in its supply chain. The company’s goal is to also help deliver their sustainability goals through technologies such as Industry 4.0, IoT, AI and machine learning.

The Indian tyre maker believes that this new digital centre – along with their other unit in London – will enable them to solve complex business issues and process transformation. Apollo Tyres Ltd is the parent company of Dutch Vredestein Tyre producer Apollo Vredestein BV. The addition of this digital innovation centre promises an advanced level of manufacturing solutions for Apollo Tyres Ltd. They have stated that this centre will allow for “enhanced process control across factories globally” as well as “real-time insights into operations”. Furthermore, the company expects that their new facility will “enhance operational efficiencies across their manufacturing operations”.
