Sustainability and digitization are two challenges Bulgaria needs to take on. The rise in energy prices made some of the poorest Bulgarians buy wood-burning stoves. In addition, barely 6 percent of the country’s SMEs sell their goods online – the EU average is 17 percent. €6.27 billion from the European Commission is set to help Bulgaria in its climate transition. As part of the plan, €2.5 billion will be invested in making the economy greener, with part of this sum for new renewable energy and batteries.
