The startup Withlocals from Eindhoven – originating at the Greenhouse Group in the Admirant at the Emmasingel – raises 3.5 million euros in an investment round.
The growth is mainly due to Amsterdam-based investment company Inkef Capital. Founded in 2013, Withlocals offers a marketplace where users can buy or sell tours and other holiday activities.
According to the startup, there are currently around 1,200 private tours per month offered via the service. These are sold by 900 users in 24 cities. In the future, the platform wants to expand to another 40 additional cities, including New York, Florence, and Hong Kong.
Initially, Withlocals focused on eating and drinking with the locals at their homes. Now it’s more about excursions under the supervision of a local. The service is used every month by 10,000 people, says Withlocals. The number of users is said to have increased by an average of 20 percent per month over the past eighteen months.
