The field manager can optimize his maintenance and inform his club directly about the field quality. Thanks to the field parameters, a player knows which shoes to put on best. The trainer sees the difference between the training fields and the main field and thus determines on which field he can best prepare his match. The stadium manager knows whether he can schedule another match or event.

These are recognizable situations for everyone active on or around sports fields, but due to a lack of data, only some can always make the right choice. Hi Sports’ easy-to-use dashboard solves that: it supports athletes, trainers, field managers, and administrators in making and substantiating their decisions. It is an open platform to which measuring instruments from various suppliers can be connected, and all data can be collected centrally, along with input from players, trainers, and field managers. With proprietary measurement tools such as the HiPSter, which measures field performance according to FIFA standards, the data is automatically uploaded. The Hi Sports dashboard is an indispensable link in the field management of any club or league.

The dashboard works simply and intuitively, with specific rights for specific roles. Leagues can simply add clubs, clubs can simply add fields themselves.

Timeline and heatmap

A timeline shows the developments of the field over a specified period. The heatmap shows measurement results at different locations on the field. With separate functions for playing quality, grass growth, construction, and evaluation, insight into the status of the field can be gained quickly. Playing quality, for example, is determined by shock absorption, roughness, energy restitution, ball roll, ball bounce, and vertical deformation, among other things. Data can be entered both automatically and manually. Maintenance activities can be recorded, resulting in a log showing all performance and turf growth data over a chosen period. This provides insight into the moment and future developments such as injury prevention.

“With this dashboard, we solve a lot of challenges for a club in one go”, says data biologist Joep van Cranenbroek of Hi Sports. “Not only do we make field management more sustainable and efficient, the turf quality also improves. Our dashboard provides indispensable knowledge tailored to individual users. Whether you are field manager, stadium manager, or player, everyone wins with it.”

Johan Cruijff ArenA

The dashboard has been developed as an open platform for top sports in the Hi Sports field lab in the Johan Cruijff ArenA and is being further developed for recreational sports in Brainport. Van Cranenbroek: “In our field lab, we are working on new innovations such as a solution with a multispectral camera with which we can automatically measure the vitality of the grass 24/7 and on new turf sensors that will also be integrated into the HiPSter in 2024.” This mobile measuring device, the size of a mower, measures field quality and automatically transmits the results to the dashboard.

Several advisory functions will eventually be added to the dashboard to give even more meaning to the results. In addition, Hi Sports, in cooperation with the HAS Green Academy, offers training courses for greenkeepers, natural grass experts, sports field lighting specialists, and data-driven sports field managers.

The Hi Sports dashboard is already being used in the Dutch Eredivisie in combination with the HiPSter, also developed by Hi Sports. Pilots are currently running at several clubs and leagues in Europe. The dashboard will be available from January 2024 as a standalone product and in combination with the Hi Sports measuring instruments.
