It was just a matter of time. Europe’s first electric camper van has recently been released on the open roads. The premiere belongs to the Dutch company Camperfixx, which handles the conversion to electric of a number of existing medium-sized light commercial vehicles under its own brand name.
The electric camper’s range is 330 km according to the consumption standard of the WLPT, which is the global standard.
The first e-camper is of modest in size and is based on one of the minivans from the PSA Group (Peugeot Expert, Opel Vivaro, Citroën Jumpy). The Toyota Proace, which has the same base, can also be converted. The conversion is done in the manufacturing hall of VDL Bus & Coach in Venlo, the Netherlands. The procedure costs 21,000 euro. There are also DIY kits, which save the camper around 6,000 Euros. A fully electric camper based on the Toyota Proace comes to about 70,000 euro.
Fast charging
The electric camper, which is called the e-Fixxer XXL, is built based on the longest model of one of the above-mentioned commercial vehicles. The power train consists of a 100 kW or 136 hp electric motor. The extensive battery pack, called the Extra Range battery pack, has a capacity of 75 kW. This gives it a range of 330 km according to the consumption standard of the WLPT, which is the global standard. Thanks to fast charging, the battery is 80 percent full again within half an hour.
Pop-up roof sleeping area
The simple interior is made up of a sofa bed, a large fridge, a cupboard, a kitchen with built-in table and some small storage compartments. The sofa bed is RDW-approved and can be pulled out without any awkward rails on the floor, as stated on the Campingfixx website. When folded down, the width is 135 cm. This is over ten centimetres more than is standard in these type of models. In any event, two people will have to be fairly keen on each other to lie on it together. The length of the bed is nothing to complain about either and with a length of 210 centimetres, it is bigger than any hotel bed in southern Europe. The pop-up roof sleeping area in the e-Fixxer XXL is luxuriously equipped with lots of ventilation options. The tent can then be fully unzipped. as well.
It is also possible to rent the electric camper.
