Each week, in our Sunday newsletter, we look back on the past seven days. Regarding content, we always do so at the initiative of our cartoonist, Albert Jan Rasker. He chooses a subject, draws a picture, and we take it from there.

Most startup founders make sure at the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey that the idea they have in their heads works and has an impact. They need to pull out all the stops during this period to test, improve, and develop a concept. But, as is true for any business, keeping an eye on finances is at least as important as facilitating growth. That all has to do with the right business plan. Albert Jan knows it, as does Koen Tomassen, whom we spoke to at length about it.

The interview is one of the many articles we produced leading up to the big LEVEL UP event, which takes place tomorrow at the Evoluon in Eindhoven. Over a thousand guests are expected from home and abroad, all with one goal in mind: to create even better conditions for startups’ success. Read all articles about this event (and more to follow on Monday!).

Patents

Indeed, business plans are important when starting and growing your startup. But especially for deep-tech startups, proper use of patents is just as essential. If you want to be updated on the most crucial ins and outs involved in that process, we’ve also got you covered. A new blog post by Marco Coolen appears every Sunday at 11 a.m. on Innovation Origins. Marco is a Dutch and European patent attorney at AOMB and knows all about intellectual property.
Here are the first installments in this series.

Pitch it!

We mentioned earlier in this newsletter that we are the media partner of the AI Pitch Competition; now, we are almost halfway through introducing the twelve finalists. On November 7, they will compete for the grand prize of 50,000 euros. Read here how they plan to change the world with artificial intelligence.

For the calendar

As promised, we will keep you informed about our events on a regular basis. Next Wednesday (Oct. 2), there will be another Drinks/Pitches/Demos; on Oct. 8, we will organize the Fundfest (only for startups that got funding and investors who provided it), and on Nov. 14, it’s our relaunch party. You received a post about that earlier this week. The program starts at 4 p.m. at Mikrostad in Eindhoven, just a 5-minute walk from central station. We start with a live interview with a special guest – we can’t reveal who yet, but we guarantee you it will be a prominent guest. After the interview we will reveal our new brand and invite you for a drink. Registration will open soon!

And here’s what else caught our eye last week:

Have a good week!
