Brainport Industries Campus has won the Benelux trophy for circular building, during an event in Antwerp. The prize was awarded by Zinkinfo, a trade association for the hot-dip galvanisation of steel.
The green campus was awarded the prize because, according to the jury, the design of the building took into account the reuse of building materials. It appeals to the jury that the building concept of the hull with built-in elements is modular and demountable. This makes it easy to adapt to the changing production processes and dynamics of companies. All the building materials used are fully recyclable.
In order to extend the service life, the main steel structure – a total of 4,500 tonnes – has been treated with a special powder coating. Secondary structures such as fences and staircases have also been treated with this coating and will, therefore, last longer. All roof panels, facade panels and interior walls are made of galvanised steel and finished with a layer to prevent rust.
This is the first time that Zinc info has awarded the prize for circular building, according to the trade association a clear statement to support circular building.
