NXP and Solar Team Eindhoven (known from the Stella and Stella Lux) have won an Automotive Innovation Award (AIA). Solar Team received an Encouragement Award, NXP got a ‘real’ one. The awards were presented by former Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende.
NXP received the award in the category of Technology for their radar chip. This chip detects objects while driving and warns the driver of the car in case of problems or decides to stop the car by itself. VDL, TU/Ecomotive and ProDrive were also nominated, but didn’t make it to the final awards.
As an incentive for their efforts in building the family car that runs on solar energy and stores the extra collected energy for later, the Eindhoven Stella students were given the Encouragement Prize. In their category they lost against Dutch Green Carbon.
