Twelve ambitious AI startups have been selected to compete in the AI Pitch Competition. The finals are on November 7, 2024, and Innovation Origins will portray each contestant in the run-up to that event. The AI Pitch Competition is a Brabant-based organization that aims to spotlight the most innovative AI solutions, offering startups the opportunity to present their ideas, connect with industry leaders, and accelerate their growth. Today, we show what BrainBite has in store for the world. Sayed Shahidi, founder and CEO, answers our questions.
BrainBite aims to offer educational tools closely connected to the children’s needs. Learning at their own pace and with what they individually enjoy, while the parent always maintains overview and control. In Brainbite’s own words: “Together, we make learning fun, effective and personal.”
1. Technical innovation: What specific AI technology or algorithm is at the core of your solution, and how does it differentiate from existing approaches in the industry?
“BrainBite leverages AI mentorship and personalized learning paths tailored specifically to children’s unique learning needs. The core AI technology utilizes adaptive learning algorithms that adjust based on a child’s progress and preferences. Unlike other platforms, BrainBite incorporates real-time mentorship that goes beyond static content delivery, offering 24/7 on-demand support for children. This allows BrainBite to stand out in the EdTech space by focusing on truly interactive, personalized learning experiences, rather than one-size-fits-all educational models.”
2. Scalability and practical application: How scalable is your AI solution, and what are the primary challenges you anticipate in bringing it to a global or large-scale market?
“Our AI solution is highly scalable as it operates through cloud-based infrastructure, allowing us to expand globally without hardware restrictions. The challenges anticipated primarily include localization of content for different languages and curricula, as well as adjusting the AI to regional learning standards. However, the platform’s modular nature allows for easy adaptation to different markets.”
3. Ethical considerations: How does your startup address potential ethical concerns related to bias, fairness, or transparency in AI decision-making? Can you provide an example of how you mitigate such risks?
“We prioritize fairness and transparency by ensuring that our AI models are trained on diverse datasets, which mitigates the risk of bias. Furthermore, we provide clear explanations of how our AI-driven decisions are made, ensuring transparency for both parents and educators. We have a dedicated ethics team that regularly reviews our processes to prevent any unintentional bias from creeping into our mentorship or course recommendations. Furthermore we are partnering up with the likes of HAN and NHL Stenden to continue research and development on this.”
4. Societal impact: In what ways do you believe your AI solution can positively impact society? Are there any unintended societal risks or challenges you foresee, and do you prepare to handle them?
“BrainBite’s mission is to democratize education by making high-quality learning accessible to all children, including those with learning differences. We are dedicated to bridging the gap between traditional schooling and personalized learning needs, helping to reduce educational inequalities across different demographics. Our solution ensures that no child is left behind, providing real-time support for those who may need extra help.”
5. Entrepreneurial journey: What has been the biggest hurdle in launching your AI startup, and how did you overcome it? How has the current AI landscape shaped your business model and growth strategy?
Sayed Shahidi: “Launching BrainBite has not been without its hurdles, with the biggest challenge being finding the right balance between educational rigor and engaging content. The current AI landscape has pushed us to continuously innovate, ensuring our platform meets both high educational standards and delivers a fun, game-like experience for kids. Our growth strategy focuses on partnerships with educational institutions and parents, who serve as advocates for our platform.”
6. Regulation and compliance: How do you prepare for the increasing regulatory frameworks around AI, such as GDPR, AI Act, or other data privacy laws? How does this impact your innovation and development process?
Sayed Shahidi: “We are fully GDPR-compliant and are closely following the developments of the AI Act and other regulatory frameworks around data privacy and AI decision-making. This has guided our innovation process, ensuring that we not only meet current regulations but also proactively adapt to future laws.”
7. Future vision: What is your long-term vision? How do you see your technology evolving over the next 5 to 10 years, and what role do you expect your company to play in shaping the future of AI?
“Our long-term vision is to be a global leader in AI-driven education, evolving our technology to become more intuitive, proactive, and integrated into daily learning routines. Over the next 5-10 years, we see BrainBite becoming the go-to platform for personalized education, expanding into more markets while continuing to innovate in AI mentorship.”
8. The AI Pitch Competition: Why will you win this contest?
“BrainBite stands out in this competition due to its focus on making education truly accessible and personalized for every child. Our unique blend of AI mentorship and learning customization addresses current gaps in the EdTech space, and we believe this innovation will give us a winning edge.”
