In response to the growing cloud computing market in Germany, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has opened a new, state-of-the-art office in Munich. “Companies from all sectors of the German economy are using the AWS cloud to promote innovation, substantially cut costs, securely use their data, and at the same time support their growth in Germany, Europe, and worldwide,” said Klaus Bürg, General Manager for Amazon Web Services in the DACH region at the opening ceremony. “The new AWS office in Munich with the Digital Builders Showroom, the Industrial Software Showcase, and the Event Area is another part of our ongoing investment to further promote cloud initiatives in Germany.”
Companies, from start-ups to small and medium-sized enterprises and to large corporations, non-profit organizations, and public sector companies, can expand their cloud know-how in workshops and while benefiting from networking opportunities that may even lead to new opportunities for cooperation.
Digital Builders Showroom
The Digital Builders Showroom, developed in partnership with the Boston Consulting Group and Siemens, enables companies, whether small, medium or large, as well as public sector organizations, to educate themselves and innovate using AWS cloud technologies.
The showroom consists of several “stations”. There will be technical demonstrations, such as AWS-based applications in action: e.g. Smart-Factory and Smart-City solutions. Consultants with both a technical and management background will demonstrate how technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Deep Learning (DL), Computer Vision, Edge Computing, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) can help organizations to grow and innovate.
“In collaboration with AWS, we will bring digital transformation to life for German companies of all sizes in the Digital Builders Showroom,” said Matthias Tauber, CEO of Boston Consulting Group, Germany. “We want to make digital transformation more tangible. To achieve this, our consultants will work closely with the experts at AWS. We will help organizations of all sizes better understand disruptive technologies such as AI, Computer Vision, Edge Computing, and Internet of Things (IoT), and help promote innovation in all German companies.”
Industrial Software Showcase
The Industrial Software Showcase has been developed in partnership with Siemens Digital Industries Software and shows how cloud technologies can improve all steps of the manufacturing process – from initial design through production to ongoing inspection and maintenance. Among other things, visitors can gain practical experience and test various advanced manufacturing applications themselves.
“Manufacturing companies are undergoing rapid change. New analytical methods, machine learning (ML), IoT, and other technologies that are changing basic operating procedures are all contributing to this change. AWS is a pioneer and market leader in cloud computing. Working closely together, we want to help industrial companies make the cultural and technological changes necessary to succeed in these disruptive times,” said Tony Hemmelgarn, president, and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries Software.
A place to meet
The new AWS premises also include meeting rooms, a large auditorium for events, and co-working areas where customers and APN partners can work with AWS business and technical specialists. In addition, regular training and certification courses are held in public classrooms, where developers and technical specialists can expand their knowledge of cloud technologies.
The AWS Loft program will also take place in this area; with a series of events designed to help start-ups develop and grow their businesses on AWS. The first AWS Loft will be open for two weeks, starting November 4, 2019.
In addition to the new facilities in Munich, AWS will hire more than 500 people this year in its data centers, development centers, and offices in Berlin, Cologne, Dresden, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, and Walldorf to further support the rapid growth in this country. Amazon plans to create a total of 2,800 new jobs in Germany by the end of the year.
