University expects 2250 new Bachelor students against 2050 last year
This year TU/e student intake is again on the rise, by around ten percent. Based on the enrollment figures as they stand at the end of August, the university expects some 2250 new Bachelor students against 2050 last year. This means that the intake of Bachelor students to TU/e has doubled over a seven-year period. It also brings the total number of students enrolled at TU/e to more than 11000, the highest number ever.
“We are really proud that more and more students are choosing to study at our university,” TU/e rector Frank Baaijens says. “There continues to be a crying need for engineering graduates, so this is indeed good news. But it also means we are running at full capacity. The strong growth of recent years, at more or less the same funding, puts great pressure on our staff and space. To safeguard the high quality of our education and research we decided last year to limit further growth for four study programs as of the academic year 2018/2019.”
The number of new international Bachelor students is growing fast. Last year there were 184; this year the figure is expected to be around 300. Increasingly more TU/e Bachelor studies, like the Master studies, are being taught in English.
The number of new students already with a Bachelor degree from a different institutions and now beginning a TU/e Master is more or less the same. As last year, this figure was around 400, with 300 coming from abroad. And still the number of TU/e Master students has grown this year, attributable to the Bachelor studies intake which has been rising for years whereby these students have progressed on to Master studies.
Many students still have to make their payment; enrollment is not definitive until this happens. So the university still has to wait for the definitive intake figures. These will be made known on 1 October.
