According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject, published last week, the Eindhoven University of Technology is one of the top 100 universities in the world in 7 disciplines, with Architecture studies reaching 45th place. TU/e thus occupies a relatively stable position in this ranking, which is particularly used by international prospective students.
Globally, this year 1130 universities have been ranked by academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per published article and the H-index. Unlike other rankings, universities do not have to provide data themselves. Of the 48 sub-areas that QS looked at this year, TU/e was included in 13, seven of which fall within the top 100.
The QS World University Ranking is together with the Shanghai ranking and the THE ranking, among the most prominent university rankings in the world. QS World University Rankings is an annual publication by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British company specialized in education and studies abroad. In addition to a general ranking that will be released in the autumn, QS will present five rankings in the winter that focus on the Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences & Management. TU/e is present in the lists of Arts & Humanities (rank 319), Engineering & Technology (rank 103) and Natural Sciences (rank 181).
At a ranking of 103, TU/e scores best in Engineering & Technology, a discipline in which Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from the USA is 1st in the global rankings. As far as Dutch universities are concerned, TU/e is placed between TU Delft (22nd) and the University of Twente (at 220).
