The French government is releasing 10 million euros to co-finance the installation of charging stations on the premises of independent petrol stations. “This support is provided to modernise small petrol stations and confirm their essential role in the electrification of mobility”, the French government said in a press release.

Stations selling less than 2,500 m3 of fuel per year, i.e. more than 4,000 petrol stations in France, are eligible for this scheme. The charging station must be installed on the premises of an independent filling station located in municipalities with average population density or in rural municipalities according to the classification of Insee, the French CBS. The public support is 60 or 70 percent of the installation cost, depending on the power of the installed charging stations (50 or 150 Kw). The aid can be applied for since 1 December from the French environment and energy management agency Ademe.

Mind the details

This is the second form of aid targeted at small filling stations this year. The first measure was introduced last August 22 to apply the government’s fuel rebate until the end of 2022. According to the government, this subsidy, which amounts to 3,000 or 6,000 euros depending on the average monthly volume of fuel sold in 2021, has already made it possible to support 880 filling stations: 580 small stations selling less than 500 hl of fuel per month and 290 stations selling more than 500 hl of fuel per month.
