EIT InnoEnergy is joining the EU Solar Photovoltaic Industry Alliance. Also known as the European solar alliance, which has recently decided to significantly increase the production capacity of solar panels. “This alliance, together with the European Commission, has the ambition to develop an industry that can deliver an annual capacity of 30 gigawatts by 2025. This is more than double the current capacity in the Netherlands,” the company said in a press release.
Faster independence
“Third countries are giving massive support to develop their cleantech industries and attract ours,” said Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market. “The EU needs to up its game on investment and the regulatory environment to allow our cleantech production to thrive, create jobs in Europe and compete globally. The new European Solar PV Industrial Alliance is a key initiative to reduce dependency and increase EU production capacity of solar PV technologies to 30 Gigawatts per year across the entire value chain by 2025,” Breton said.
Spearheads
To make its ambitions a reality, the team will follow a strategic action plan. This consists of seven points. These include identifying bottlenecks, facilitating access to finance and supporting research and innovations in this area. Other aspects highlight the importance of in-service training, development and establishing international partnerships.
