Tech5, an initiative of Adyen and The Next Web, (TNW) puts the hottest young scale-ups in Europe in the spotlight. The independent jury made up of investors, influencers and other experts selected Shypple as the winner of the country award in the Netherlands. They judged them for this on criteria such as notable investment rounds, social impact, team growth and media attention.

“Shypple pursued its growth story in 2021 by expanding forwarding activities to new regions (Asia, Central America) and new sectors (perishables). In 2021, Shypple raised €25.5 million and continued to grow its team and provide technological solutions for a traditional market. Logistics has been the hot topic of the day over the past year, more than ever before – it has become central to people’s lives as shipping delays and canal blockades make headlines. The Rotterdam-based company has been emerging as a bridge between the traditional shipping capabilities of European trading nations and the forward-looking global trading sector, and we are watching their next steps with interest,” said Patrick de Laive, co-founder of TNW.

Recognition

“This award is a tremendous recognition for the efforts of all Shypple employees who have worked insanely hard over the past period to make the platform a success,” said Jarell Habets, CEO of Shypple. “It shows that we are working diligently to continue innovating the freight industry and global trade. With our international team, we are in a strong position to achieve our ambitions.”

Founded in 2016, the Shypple platform already connects more than 3,000 companies. In August, the organization raised €25.5 million, just four months after the initial Series A round in April 2021 when €7 million was raised. The second investment round coincided with the acquisition of Milestone, a leading European player in fresh produce logistics. These investments and acquisition are accelerating market growth and making Shypple the first digital forwarder for fresh produce. Shypple is on track to substantially modernize the traditional E€300 billion freight forwarding market.

In order to accomplish these growth ambitions, the freight forwarder platform plans to double the number of employees and its developer team should be increased at least fourfold. The organization has grown from 12 people in 2018 to 120 in 2021, with offices worldwide.
