The plastic collection point for the People’s Pavilion was opened on Wednesday. This building will be the central meeting point during Dutch Design Week, and the parallel World Design Event. Residents of Eindhoven who want to assist with the construction of the fully circular pavilion can now hand in their plastic. Mary-Ann Schreurs, councillor for Innovation, Design and Sustainability gave the green light for the collection of seven thousand kilograms of plastic. 9500 of these will be made into slates that will cover the sides of the building.

Schreurs describes the project: “This is a good example of using design to make the world a little better. To carry out ideas you need other people, designers cannot do it alone. That is what we are good at in Eindhoven, making things together.”

Plastic can be handed in until 10 September. Volunteers are available on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons to assist with the collection and to answer questions about the project. The ‘People’s Pavilion Plastic Station’ is located at the Ketelhuisplein, opposite the Ontdekfabriek. The types of plastic that you can hand in are HDPE and PP hard plastics. These can be identified by a triangle with a five or two in it. If in doubt, the float-test can be applied. As long as the plastic continues to float in water, it is usable.
