Every year, Coöperatie VGZ awards a prize to the company that will innovate healthcare the most. This year the prize goes to Plasmacure. The company has developed a medical device that uses cold plasma to provide better wound care. With their PLASOMA solution, up to two and a half times more wounds can be healed than in standard wound care. These results were recently achieved in a clinical study showing the efficacy of their product in complex wounds.

“We are immensely proud and grateful for the many votes we received from our network over the past few weeks,” said CEO Bjorn Sprengers. “We were extra proud after hearing the jury report that described the great impact our solution can have on the lives of people with chronic wounds. The judges also recognized the huge savings in healthcare costs we helped realize.”

Sprengers sees the award as an important recognition for the team and an important benchmark for the healthcare industry because of the potential that PLASOMA can deliver. “Wound care is a big part of healthcare systems and costs. Typically, two to four percent of healthcare costs in a market go to wound care. We have shown that we can cure two and a half times more of these wounds than standard care, which was a huge milestone for us. Plasmacure offers exciting innovation and technology to stimulate the natural healing process and reduce costs because patients no longer need help 2 or 3 times a week. So you can save all those costs and, most importantly, increase the productivity of nurses and healthcare organizations.”

Sprengers hopes that will also lead to action by insurers. “We sincerely hope that this award will be an incentive for insurers, hospitals, and home care agencies in the Netherlands and abroad to work with us and take wound care to the next level together.”
