Suppose you get a call from someone claiming to be from the bank. And who tells you that there is something wrong with your money, your account or your debit card. Then you want to be sure that you are talking to the bank and not to a crook who is after your money. The ING app is going to provide a solution for this. With the new feature “Check het Gesprek” customers can check whether a caller who contacts the bank on behalf of the bank is actually an employee. The feature will be rolled out starting April 16, 2024.
Why you need to know this:
Technology, such as ING’s app, can help prevent fraud. This is necessary because still a lot of people are victims of online fraud.
Help desk fraud
Unfortunately, many people still become victims of bank helpdesk fraud. Their money disappears directly into the pockets of criminals who can use it to fund other scams. This makes bank helpdesk fraud, as well as other forms of fraud, a social problem that can only be solved through cooperation between various parties. ING will share the experiences with the other Dutch banks.
How it works
It works like this: When a customer receives an alarming call from someone claiming to be from ING, the customer can press a button during the call and type in his or her phone number. The ING call system then immediately checks whether an ING employee is really calling the customer’s phone number. The customer sees on his or her screen whether it is correct or not, and what the customer should do next.
