She directed the Design Academy Eindhoven for almost 10 years. She advised companies like Coca Cola and Nissan, and taught students of design from Poznan to New York. In 2003, Time Magazine named her one of the 25 most influential people in the world of fashion. Lidewij Edelkoort is now back in Eindhoven. OPEN ENDED, a new exhibition of items from her personal collection, opens tomorrow at Kazerne.
When asked whether she is excited to temporarily leave her things behind, Lidewij Edelkoort replies that it is “terrifying”. She tells how someone almost sat on one of the items the day before. But, overall, she is enthusiastic. It’s great to see the designs back in this space. They are items from the period 1990-2015. Edelkoort selected works by local artists and international talent that were significant for design at the turn of the century.
Today the finishing touches are being made to the exhibition that will be open to the public tomorrow.
