Eindhoven startup Globe Protocol has raised €1.2 million from Simac, Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij (BOM), and two private investors. The investment should contribute to the company’s scale-up ambition. For this, Globe Protocol is looking at Europe, the United States, and Asia.
Globe Protocol is developing a platform protecting consumer privacy while providing companies with valuable customer data.
The startup has applied that principle to the sports world, for example. Building a stable fan base is complicated for many sports clubs. Fans are scattered across different platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and the club’s contacts. Globe Protocol lets fans come together in one place. Fans can give their club insight into their hobbies, interests, and preferences. In return, they get tailored offers and a chance to win tickets and merchandise.
“Heroes Den Bosch is a great example of this,” Globe Protocol commented. “This Dutch basketball club has had one integrated environment for the club, fans, and its sponsors since May 2023. Meanwhile, fifteen business partners can offer promotions if the fan wants them, and some 1,500 fans use this opportunity.”
AnyID or cookies
Globe Protocol is jumping on the desire for more anonymous surfing with its AnyID platform. Through the AnyID app, users can place personal information in a digital vault. They then control which information is visible to which company. Zero-party data, it’s called. The idea behind it: a glut of ads from a particular brand just after you search for more information about something related. According to Globe Protocol’s founders, consumers prefer to browse and scroll anonymously without losing control of where they leave data.
According to the founders, AnyID serves not only consumers but also businesses. Indeed, third-party cookies are slowly disappearing from the scene. Google Chrome has announced it will stop using them. Since 70 percent of Internet users use Chrome, doing away with them might also dry up the data gold mine for businesses. AnyID jumps into that gap. As consumers specifically share data through AnyID, the data becomes more reliable and valuable to businesses.
Fair use of data
“Zero-party data is a fairer way for companies to build a customer profile,” said Jasper Meijer van Putten, founder and CEO of Globe Protocol. “This is precisely because the consumer agrees and decides when the information can be viewed. With AnyID, companies also comply with current and future privacy regulations.”
