Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has completed the acquisition of Eindhoven based Phenom-World, a leader in desktop scanning electron microscopy solutions. Thermo Fisher will integrate the business into Thermo Fisher’s Analytical Instruments segment. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed by Thermo Fisher or the selling companies Sioux and NTS Group. Two years ago, Thermo Fisher already acquired FEI, from which Phenom-World originates. FEI, once part of Philips, specializes in larger models of electron microscopy solutions.
Phenom-World delivers desktop SEMs, and imaging and analysis packages, for research and industrial markets. “The addition of Phenom World’s leading desktop SEM platform strengthens Thermo Fisher’s leadership in electron microscopy and expands the company’s entry-level and desktop SEMs offerings for customers working in the materials science, industrial manufacturing, life sciences and electronics industries”, a statement by Thermo Fisher says.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. calls itself the world leader in “serving science”, with revenues of more than $20 billion and approximately 65,000 employees globally. “Our mission is to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We help our customers accelerate life sciences research, solve complex analytical challenges, improve patient diagnostics, deliver medicines to market and increase laboratory productivity.”
