The Eindhoven company Ioniqa has completed a financing round of €12 million, with The Coca-Cola Company as one of its investors. With this money, a factory can be built on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus for the upcycling of 10 kilotons of PET plastic. The money will come from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, the National Green Fund, The Coca-Cola Company and shareholders of Ioniqa.
Tonnis Hooghoudt, Founder and CEO of Ioniqa: “This is another important milestone in bringing our technology to market to make plastics sustainable. After previous press releases around the strong interest of Unilever, The Coca-Cola Company and Indorama, we now have the funding in place to actually deliver the pure raw materials for food packaging. We are thereby making the planet cleaner by disposing of the plastic waste on the planet and using it sustainably as a raw material.”
State Secretary Mona Keijzer explains the financing from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate: “Ioniqa is developing a promising and pioneering innovation to reduce plastic waste. I would like to help Dutch entrepreneurs to make such solutions for global challenges a success. Our common goal for a more sustainable and circular economy leads to new opportunities to remain globally competitive as a country. The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, therefore, supports innovative companies with knowledge, funding and partnerships to grow with their products and services.”
