Airbus APWorks embarks the Additive Industries Beta Programme with the order of the first MetalFAB1 system. Additive Industries is the Eindhoven based 3D metal printing start-up; Airbus APWorks is a 100 % subsidiary of the Airbus Group. Airbus APWorks is the first confirmed Beta customer for Additive Industries.
Airbus APWorks has experience in a broad range of metal additive manufacturing. The company covers the entire value chain, from optimizing component design to the choice of suitable materials, from prototyping to qualified serial production. Airbus APWorks supplies customers in robotics, mechanical engineering, automotive, medical technology and aerospace.
Additive Industries CEO Daan Kersten is “proud to team up with Airbus as our first customer to further develop the process, new materials and applications as well as verifying the performance of the MetalFAB1 system. Their commitment emphasizes the potential of our new metal additive manufacturing system for industrial series production of functional parts.”
Joachim Zettler, Managing Director of Airbus APWorks, is equally happy with the deal. “With the integrated MetalFAB1 solution, we believe to be able to simultaneously improve the product consistency and lower the cost price for metal additive manufacturing.”
According to 3D Printing Industry, Airbus has several different metal additive manufacturing machines already in-house. “All of these manufacturers are working on or have already presented modular solutions to automate the additive manufacturing process. Netherlands-based Additive Industries is a relatively new player, but its machine is now actively part of the transition to the factory of tomorrow.”
Additive Industries is located in Strijp-S. It’s mission is “to bring metal additive manufacturing for functional parts from lab to fab by offering a modular 3D printing system and seamlessly integrated information platform to high-end and demanding industrial markets”. It focuses on aerospace, automotive, medical technology and high-tech equipment.
