Tech fair CES 2024 is a highlight for technology enthusiasts. Today, the fair kicks off. From a foldable transport device to a special water bottle for emergencies, we list four notable innovations.
Why you need to know this:
At CES 2024, we will see how companies are pushing boundaries in technology, resulting in improved products for various sectors.
A foldable electric vehicle
City traffic is still a major annoyance for many. Many people take the bus or tram. Over the years, several companies have tried to tackle the “first mile/last mile” problem, but with varying degrees of success. Now Honda is venturing into it. The company is introducing the Motocompacto, a compact, foldable and portable electric mobility device that takes up almost 20 per cent less space than a carry-on suitcase.
Weighing 42 pounds, it is less than half the weight of its 92-pound internal combustion engine predecessor. Its lightweight design and handle make it quite easy to carry or roll.
A medical glove
Gyrogear is at CES 2024 with its healthcare innovation. After six years of development and millions in funding, the company has launched a glove that counteracts hand tremors in patients with Parkinson’s disease. The secret lies in a super-fast spinning gyroscope that counteracts the wearer’s movements, instantly minimising vibrations. This could offer an alternative to drugs and their associated side effects.
Gyrogear’s innovation has not gone unnoticed; the company has won three CES 2024 Innovation Awards in the categories of Accessibility & Aging Technology, Wearable Technologies and Digital Health.
An emergency water bottle
OptySun from Ukraine has designed a water bottle essential for emergency relief, outdoor sports and humanitarian aid. This bottle, made of durable stainless steel, has a built-in UV LED emitter that eliminates 99.8 per cent of bacteria within 15 minutes.
In addition to the water bottle, OptySun has also developed a solar-powered water purifier for use in the field. OptySun was nominated for the CES 2024 Innovation award.
Self-charging headphones
Swedish technology startup Exeger focuses on renewable, locally generated energy for consumer products. They are presenting their groundbreaking Powerfoyle: flexible solar cell technology, at CES 2024. For example, they have partnered with Urbanista, integrating Powerfoyle into over-ear headphones.
CES 2024 shows that the future of technology is not just about creating new gadgets, but also providing solutions to everyday problems and challenges.
