Maud Verwimp (11) from Veldhoven has come up with the smartest idea. As part of the contest “Your Smartest Idea 2016” she created the ‘Garbage Bank’. It brought her the title aftyer a competition with all primary school pupils in Brainport. Today, Friday, May 27, the finals took place in the Ontdekfabriek in Eindhoven. The competition is part of the Dutch Technology Week and aims to uncover the affinity with technology and innovation for children up to 12 years.

maudverwimp3Out of nearly 500 entries, 10 finalists were chosen on the website www.jouwslimsteidee.nl, one from each participating municipality. They were challenged to present their inventions to a jury, while loudly encouraged by some 250 fans.

At the end of the afternoon, Maud Verwimp from Veldhoven stood out as the best inventor with her “Garbage Bank”: a bank where you don’t collect money, but waste – and get rewarded for it. Not with interest, but with points. Because according to Maud waste is just as valuable as money. Judge Bert Pauli, deputy of the Province of Noord-Brabant, was not only enthusiastic about the concept behind the idea but also about all the interfaces and apps aslready in. Maud won ​​an iPad with her idea.

The special prize from the audience was for Steyn Teluy from Laarbeek. His ‘Help Drone’ can provide first aid quickly after a disaster. Steyn is invited with his entire school class to discover the Ontdekfabriek in order to experience a technique adventure.

The innovation competition “Your Smartest Idea” was organized for the fifth time during the Dutch Technology Week. The competition is organized by the municipalities of Best, Boxtel, Eindhoven, Geldrop-Mierlo, Gemert-Bakel, Helmond, Nuenen, Someren, Valkenswaard Veldhoven.
