With the current record heat in Europe, the new Spyra One water pistol could well turn out to be a bestseller and also inspire adults again for exuberant water battles. However, the world’s first water pistol that fires powerful, single water pellets instead of a jet of water is only available as a prototype. As from now, the end of July, the water pistol, which is more of a water rifle, will be available for 30 days on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. If the campaign is successful Spyra One will be produced over the winter and delivered in summer 2019. And the campaign seems to be a success: after only a few days on Kickstarter, Spyra One already collected more than €175,000, whereas only €51,000 were needed to realize the plans.
How the Spyra One works
Unlike conventional water pistols, the Spyra One does not require strenuous pumping to build up pressure or manual refilling. The tank with a capacity of 25 30 ml balls, which are counted on a digital display, is charged by an automatic electronic pump by simply immersing the muzzle in any source of water (bucket, swimming pool, or lake). Thanks to a special tank technology, pressure and range remain the same from the first to the last shot. The integrated rechargeable battery lasts for water battles of several hours. The water pistol was inspired by blasters from Scifi action shooters and will initially be available in two team colours: red and blue.
And there are other distinguishing features compared to traditional water pistols: with a maximum range of 12 to 13 meters, the Spyra One can compete with the best conventional models, but also has the ability to hit precisely at a distance of 7.5 to 9 meters.
The founders of the Munich-based start-up Spyra, Rike Brand, Marius Rudolf, and Sebastian Walter, have not developed their invention as children’s toys, but for adults who want to experience the thrill of shooting games such as Softair or Paintball without expensive protective clothing. With Spyra One, you can play wherever there is water – at home, by the lake, on the beach, by the river.
