EuroTech Universities Alliance, a strategic partnership of six European tech-oriented universities, aims to support the career development of young high-potential researchers with a postdoctoral fellowship program worth €12.7 million. Within this ‘EuroTechPostdoc2’ (ETPD2) program, which is co-funded by EU’s Horizon 2020, the universities will offer grants to seventy postdoctoral researchers over the next five years, who will receive training on multidisciplinary research and entrepreneurship, and exchange opportunities.

The EuroTech Universities Alliance is a strategic partnership consisting of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Technical University of Munich (TUM), École Polytechnique (L’X) and Technion Israel Institute of Technology.

The universities will grant 70 fellowships for a 24-month period to collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects across the alliance. The Eindhoven University of Technology coordinates the program. “This post-doc program provides a strong contribution to the education of the next generation of leading European scientists”, says Robert-Jan Smits, president of the Eindhoven University of Technology. “It helps young top Ph.D.’s to boost their academic skills and enables them to broaden their horizon and establish international networks. This second EuroTech postdoc program underlines the value of our alliance of top European universities of technology and I am proud that the Eindhoven University of Technology is leading this program.”

Host and co-host

The ETPD2 program focuses on young experienced researchers who have already demonstrated excellence and potential in their research field. It provides international research and career development opportunities. “Fellows are trained in multidisciplinary research settings and are offered entrepreneurship opportunities including intersectoral mobility with industry”, says Ingrid Vliegen, program manager of the ETPD2 program. “Each fellow will have a host and a co-host supervisor at two different EuroTech universities to provide valuable international research experience.”

The first EuroTechPostdoc program, coordinated by TUM, was one of the first cross-country fellowship programs when it launched in 2017. Fellows appreciate the personal approach and the exchange of valuable experiences between fellows. The EuroTech Universities Alliance is a strategic partnership of leading European universities of science and technology committed to excellence in research and education. EuroTech engages with all societal actors to raise awareness of the opportunities offered by science and technology.
