Philips has been honored with 48 awards at the 2016 iF Design Awards, including three prestigious iF Gold Awards. As a result, Philips is now #1 in the international iF ranking for design. Each year, the iF International Forum Design GmbH organizes the iF Design Award, one of the world’s most valued design competitions. Recognized as a symbol of design excellence globally, the iF Design Award receives over 5,000 submissions from 70 countries.
“Philips Design has pioneered the shift from product-led to experience-led design. By co-creating with our customers and broadening our view to design for whole ecosystems we have a big real-world impact, which is reflected in our #1 iF ranking” said Sean Carney, Chief Design Officer at Philips. “Using Design-thinking we harness the power of the Internet of Things, big data and digital ecosystems to deliver on our ambition to make the world healthier and more sustainable through Design.”
Philips: “Awards reflect increasing importance of communication, concept and service design”
Among the 48 iF winners, Philips increased the number of awards it received across the iF Design Award disciplines, including communication, professional concept and service design. Philips also scooped one prize in the first edition of the Public Value category. The ultra-mobile ultrasound solution Lumify (in the discipline communication design); the cardiac catherization suite at the Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois (US) (in the discipline professional concept design); the advanced neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) (in the discipline service design) and Light for Public Spaces (in the discipline public value) were recognized for their creative approaches and their impact beyond product design.
The three Gold winners were announced on February 26 in Munich, Germany:

Designed with the simplicity of today’s mobile technology in mind, Lumify brings together familiar hardware and an ecosystem of ultrasound app software, advanced transducer innovations, connectivity and support services, for a total connected health experience that puts clinical insights and tools into the hands of more providers across the health continuum.
Designed to help patients feel like they are not wearing a mask, DreamWear’s revolutionary design directs airflow through the sides of the mask frame so patients can sleep comfortably in any position with more freedom to move in bed. With DreamWear, patients have a clear and natural line of sight, while the minimal contact, under-the-nose cushion prevents red marks, discomfort or irritation in the nostrils and on the bridge of the nose. With an open field of vision, patients can enjoy their normal bedtime activities, such as watching TV, reading with their glasses on or even kissing their partner goodnight. This enables patients to have a more comfortable and freeing sleep solution, helping them to feel more like they are sleeping naturally.
