NLingenieurs has awarded Dutch Design Foundation with the “Wimpel”. The prize is handed out once every five years to an organization or person in the spotlights who has had a positive influence on the sector of engineering and the Netherlands in a more general sense. In 2012, the VPRO TV programme ‘The Netherlands from above’ received De Wimpel.

DDF’s Martijn Paulen received the prize on Friday evening, November 3. According to NLingenieurs, the annual Dutch Design Week transmits technology “in a dominant, but still accessible way to the citizens”.

The jury:

“The Wimpel 2017 will be presented to the Dutch Design Foundation, known for the organisation of the Dutch Design Week. Last week, during the 2017 edition of the Dutch Design Week, technology was once again transmitted dominantly, but still in an accessible way to the citizens. Take the People’s Pavilion on the Ketelhuisplein in Eindhoven as an example. The Pavilion was specially built for the Dutch Design Week with 100% borrowed material. After Dutch Design Week, the materials are collected and reused. There is no screw or bolt in it! In this way, the designers have given a radically new interpretation to circular building.

This is an implementation supported by NLingenieurs because circular building is high on the agenda of the branch association and with this the Dutch Design Foundation is a justified winner of the Wimpel 2017!”

NLingenieurs, the Dutch branch association of consultancy, management, and engineering firms, celebrates its centenary this year. The anniversary celebration on Friday evening was also the occasion for the ‘De Vernufteling’, awarded to the most innovative project in the sector. The winner was Royal HaskonignDHV with FlowTack, the system that uses real-time traffic data and ensures better traffic flow.

NLingenieurs wants to publicise the work of consultancy and engineering firms.
