20 teams will participate in the Final event of the TU/e Contest 2017, that will take place tonight, June 1. This year’s third edition of the Contest is made possible by the collaboration between the TU/e and more than 30 leading companies and organizations from the Brainport region. Involved parties want to challenge students to develop and improve their innovative ideas and prototypes and turn them into a sellable product. That is why the winners of the TU/e Contest 2017 receive a contribution to kick-start their business.

With the slogan ‘where innovation starts’, an innovation competition such as the TU/e Contest is an important way to offer TU/e-students a platform on which they can pitch new innovations and ideas and turn it into a business model. Jan Mengelers, President of the Eindhoven University of Technology said: ‘with the TU/e Contest we show our creativity of which we are very proud and thereby we stimulate entrepreneurship among out students’.

Training of partner companies

From a total of 200 applied projects consisting out of almost 400 students, two selections have been made. The first selection of the top 50 projects received guidance and coaching from companies within the TU/e Contest network, such as ASML, Nuon, Thermo Fisher Scientific, SAP, Medtronic, Océ, TBI, Brightlands, and InnoEnergy. Lex Lemmens, Dean Bachelor College said: ‘It’s fantastic to see how many companies are willing to give their time and energy to our students. As well as during the online individual sessions as during the two training days, students could count on both their knowledge and expertise.’

Finale

After two successful training days it was time for the contestants to fill in the Golden Egg Check; a very practical tool for building up a business plan. Based on the quality of the business plans and shown motivation during the contest, a selection of the finalists has been made. During the finale these groups will be presenting their one-minute pitch in front of a Grand Jury existing of representatives of partner companies as well as representatives of the TU/e. In the final round, the best projects will battle each other to win the great kick-starting prizes.

Linked to the Finale, there will also be an innovation market where the network of the TU/e Contest 2017 will be presenting themselves. Alongside, various media will be present to report about the event.
